Heard that this is not ideal as its more expensive and you need a letter of invitation etc.
Anyway, here is an update on what is required when getting the visa:
- No letter of invitation needed!
- You must first pay for your visa at immigration.gov.ng (follow the 'Entry Visa' route)
- Once paid, you will get a appointment date. However we just pitched up the following day and were seen to. The acting High Commissioner said that they were only doing this during the new process as they get used to it. In future they wont see people other than on the interview date.
- Visa cost varies depending on your nationality. My visa was US$58 (South African passport) my wife was US$73 (Portuguese) even though we both apply in London.
- There is a business centre which supplies the £20 postal order processing fee, but get it before, as they charge £23 ea at the centre.
- NO letter of invitation needed, but you need a hotel booking.
- Travel insurance needed
- Proof of funds. We took bank statements but they werent happy, they wanted travellers cheques , £40 per person per day.
- Proof of being permanent resident in the UK. You will need to show your blue resident card OR two utility bills. One resident card was expired but they either didnt notice or didnt mind.
- Letter from employer.
- Visa was ready 5 working days later.
- Overall painless...if they could just tell us what the requirements were properly on the phone or their website.
